It is a well known fact that one condition of the survival of life on Earth is the sustainable cultivation of forests. At several points of our globe destruction of forests goes on instead of forest cultivation.
Having recognized this situation several non-governmental organizations established the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) that issues standards about the requirements of sustainable sylviculture, and authorizes inspecting organizations to certify the compliance of the operations of forestry applying voluntarily. FSC also issues standards that help following wooden raw materials, originating from sustainable forests, from the consumer to the forest.
SGS has the authorization of the Forest Stewardship Council to certify the sustainable cultivation of forests and also that products made of wood as a raw material originate from such forests. The latter requires the introduction of the so-called CoC (Chain of Custody) standard of FSC.
Obviously the FSC CoC certification is only possible if suppliers are also certified; this certificate is the basis of verifying that the wood comes from a forest that is cultivated in a sustainable manner.
More and more companies using wooden products and large volumes of paper packaging require their suppliers to possess the FSC CoC certificate; its trademark can even be put on the products.
It is therefore practical that all packaging material producers ask their suppliers if they possess the FSC certificate, and urge them to obtain it. The certificate represents a serious advantage, lacking it could result in loosing markets.
As one of our colleagues successfully passed the auditor's exam for certifying the FSC CoC system, SGS Hungária Kft. can provide a Hungarian auditor for the audits.
